I have always been a firm believer that somewhere, even in the most difficult of situations, lurks something good waiting for the opportunity to be drawn from it. It was for this reason that, when my husband Gary and I lost our first baby to miscarriage, we quickly knew that something positive would somewhere come from our grief.
As we started to share the news of our loss with people we knew, we began to see people being touched by our story. And it was this that led us on a path that would result in the publication of this book.

The book is available to purchase through Amazon in paperback.

Description

For the Love of Lentil is a heartfelt and candid account of the couple’s path of seeking to become parents. Based substantially on entries from my personal journal, it offers a no-holds-barred insight into the trials and tribulations of every twist and turn that greeted them along the road to pregnancy and subsequent loss.
An estimated 20 per cent of pregnancies end in miscarriage yet it is a subject rarely talked about. We chose to share the story of our miscarriage not because we view it as more significant than any other but because it is one example amid many thousands that are not shared – many thousands of tiny lives lost and worthy or remembrance and many thousands of parents affected by a whole raft of emotions and experiences, whether similar to those outlined in the book or different.
We hope that, in some small way, our story can help bring some hope and comfort to others facing challenging circumstances.

This is a very easy book to read – but have the tissues handy! It brought back memories of my own miscarriage in 1974, though we had already had one baby, so I imagine the impact on us was much less than you losing Lentil, your first baby. It is good to see how God sustained you both through everything, and how much you have learned about Him and about yourselves through all that has happened.
I hope that many people will buy the book – we all know someone who has been through miscarriage, and it might help us to help others through the experience. Well done Sarah and Gary for sharing your story with others.

This is Sarah’s first book and tells a very personal and emotional story, which needs to be shared with a much wider audience.
There are several groups of people who should read this; however I am only going to mention 3.
Any couple of child bearing age, as it will help them prepare for both joy and disappointment; whatever comes (God sends) their way.
Anybody who has friends in the above group as it will help them understand what their friends are experiencing.
Anybody who has gone through a loss themselves; as it shows a way of coping; even if that experience was a long time ago.
I also want to stress, as a man, this is not a book written by a woman, for women. It speaks equally to men; although they will probably read it in a different way.

I applaud you for your faith and for making yourselves so vulnerable in sharing such an intensely personal tragedy.
My favourite quote from the book is “We knew He would only ever loan a child to us to care for for a season.”
This was our prayer over each of our children on the day they were born and continues to be our prayer over them when separation is painful.
It is not a popular view! Most people consider children a possession to be held onto tightly. However God takes care of his own much better than us and we need his constant wisdom and support to nurture them.
Amongst close family and friends we have known the loss of children to miscarriage, cot death, accident and illness. All of these were heartbreaking and challenging times in different ways but through all of them we were able to celebrate each unique person and know that they belonged to God – not to us.
We have cried with and for Gary and Sarah. We know that this world will be a much better place with their children living in it. We are praying confidently for that day at the same time as promising to always remember and celebrate Lentil’s life.
We recommend this book to anyone trying to find God in their own heartache and looking for hope while sharing the mourning of family and friends.

It’s an honest and heartfelt sharing of a painful but uplifting period in her life. A must read for anyone!

It was a great book and gave you a good understanding of what Sarah and Gary went through, during a sad time of their life.
But how their personal walk with Christ helped them.

This is an amazing book. Very honest and even though I was in different circumstances than Sarah it was such an encouragement to me. I am giving my copy to someone who will also be and am ordering 2 more as I think they are so good to give away. By the way whoever reads this book get your tissues ready.

I have just finished reading this very honest and painful story of Sarah and Gary’s recent journey through the loss of a much longed for baby. Yet through all the months of waiting and hoping to become pregnant, Sarah never lost her love and trust in the Lord, but looked to Him to answer their prayers in His timing. Then it seemed that their prayer was finally answered when Sarah became pregnant, but after their joy came sorrow as that precious baby was lost before he was born. It is so lovely to know that through all their deep sadness, they knew the love of the Lord holding them and carrying them through. They held tight to the many reassuring verses of Scripture that the Lord brought to their remembrance. I’m sure that this book will be a comfort, help and strength to those going through similar circumstances, or have already passed through such times.
